The Boreal Wetland Centre project is located on Treaty 8 Territory, an area covering over 840,000 km across parts of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories.
Ducks Unlimited Canada wishes to acknowledge that the land on which the Boreal Wetland Centre resides is in Treaty 8 territory, home to many diverse First Nation, Métis and Inuit people, including the Cree, Dene and Beaver peoples. This is also home to the ancestral and modern-day Métis communities of Paddle Prairie, Peavine, Gift Lake, East Prairie, Buffalo Lake and Métis Nation Region 6 peoples. Ducks Unlimited Canada wishes at acknowledge the peoples of this area who join us and bring with them a rich and beautiful culture from which we learn.
We also recognize and acknowledge the Elders and Knowledge Keepers who have gone before us and those who continue to walk and learn with us today. We are grateful for their stories, wisdom, songs and the many teachings we continue to learn and grow from every day and for the present and future generations.
Canada’s first outdoor hands-on site for boreal wetlands training, research, and demonstrations
Ducks Unlimited Canada’s National Boreal Program runs the Boreal Wetland Centre at Evergreen Park in the County of Grande Prairie, Alberta. The Boreal Wetland Centre aims to inspire a culture of responsible resource development through learning and innovation by providing a inclusive environment for resource partners to exchange new ideas, communicate expectations, learn from others, and inspire innovative solutions.
The Boreal Wetland Centre is an outdoor, hands-on demonstration Centre. These types of Centres are important for providing on-the-ground examples of innovative industry solutions, demonstrating avoidance and minimization practices, testing out new ideas, and educating visitors about critical habitat and environmental stewardship. The Boreal Wetland Centre is unique in boreal Canada for providing a central demonstration location that facilitates information sharing and provides opportunities for knowledge exchange among diverse user groups.
